5 Iconic Nike Movie moments
Heres a quick list of 5 Iconic Nike sneakers in Movies, honestly though I feel like this could be a list of 50 sneakers. Nike have played such a big part in popular culture, especially since the 80s and 90s – this is for many reasons, obviously with sponsorship and product placement but also the amount of different sneakers they released.
- Nike Mag in Back to the Future Part II (1989) As mentioned earlier, the Nike Mag sneakers are the most famous sneakers in movie history. These futuristic sneakers with power laces were first introduced in the 1989 sci-fi film Back to the Future and were later released as a limited edition in 2011.
- Nike Cortez in Forrest Gump (1994) The Nike Cortez sneakers worn by Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump became an instant hit among fans and casual wearers alike. The classic white-and-red colorway has become synonymous with the film and remains a popular choice for those looking for a retro sneaker.
- Nike Air Command Force in White Men Can’t Jump (1992) Woody Harrelson’s character Billy Hoyle wore the Nike Air Command Force sneakers in the 1992 film White Men Can’t Jump. The high-top sneakers feature a unique pump system on the tongue, and have become a cult classic among sneaker enthusiasts aided by their limited release and re release.
- Nike Air Jordan XI in Space Jam (1996) The Nike Air Jordan XI sneakers make an appearance in the 1996 film Space Jam, worn by Michael Jordan as he teams up with Bugs Bunny and other Looney Tunes characters to play basketball against a group of aliens. Arguably one of the most recognisable Jordan sneakers and have since become a classic among sneakerheads and basketball fans alike.
- Nike Air Jordan 1 in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) In the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales wore a pair of Air Jordan 1 High OG during his first encounter with Peter B. Parker. These sneakers are significant to Miles’ character as they are a nod to his graffiti artist persona and along with the other sneakers he wears have a long history in hip-hop and streetwear culture.
Although not these are not all necessarily the most iconic sneakers or scenes, they have all played a big part in popular culture. Some of these films have huge list of sneakers showcased throughout, I will be exploring more of these in the future – please keep an eye out for movie specific posts.
